Sawyer Lake Gilmanton NH Fishing Report

July 4th Weekend

Since I once again ended up working on the 4th of July, I was not able to go fishing until I got up to Sawyer Lake that weekend. I don’t think I have ever seen the lake that crowded with idiots before. Not last 4th of July, not Memorial Day weekend, not even bike week. The idiots seemed to come up from the flatlands in great droves and untamed hordes. In short, it was annoying as hell. Still, even with of the drunken idiots on the swimming docks and @$$hole jet-skiers (I have reason to believe one of them ran over a loon and kept right on going), I did manage to catch a few fish. The first one was average for this lake, but the second one was approaching that 18in 3lbs mark. The fish do seem to be getting bigger around here. Here’s hoping the idiot vacationers find some way to wreck that as well. This last weekend was way better, my next post will be about that.

Bass Catch

  • # of Fish Caught: 2
  • Water Type: freshwater
  • Type of Fish: Largemouth Bass
  • Fish Length (Avg): 16 inches
  • Fish Length (Max): 17 inches
  • Fish Weight (Avg): 1 lbs. 8 oz.
  • Bait Type: Worm Check Prices
  • Bait Details: Even with all of the swimmer activity, the dam still is a consistent producer at night. Both fish were caught with my go-to setup, 8 inch tequila sunrise power worms with 1/16 cone weights on 1/0 offset worm hooks. The fish pictured here was about 17 in long. My scale has been on the fritz lately so I'm estimating his weight at about 2 1/3 lbs.
  • Location Details: Both this big fish here and the smaller one in the other photo were caught maybe 3/4 full casting distance from the damn.
