Lake Taylorville is located three (3) miles south of Taylorville, Illinois. The 1200 acre Lake was built in 1962. The City of Taylorville relies on the Lake as its main source of water and recreation. Two (2) public parks, the Optimist and Kiwanis parks provide picnicking and family enjoyment. A public beach is also available. Camping is available from April 1st thru October 31st. Boating and fishing are available almost year round. During the summer season, April 1st thru October 31st, the Lake Marina Office is open Monday thru Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday , Saturday and Sunday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. More than 18 miles of shoreline wind around Lake Taylorville. Lake Taylorville is a 1,200-acre (4.8 km²) reservoir located in Christian County, Illinois. Created in 1962 by damming the South Fork of Illinois's Sangamon River, it was built for water supply and recreation purposes. The lake is 6.5 miles (10.5 km) long and 0.4 miles (0.6 km) wide. The nearest town is Taylorville, Illinois, southeast of Springfield, Illinois.[1]
