Boat launch on Northwest side of lake in Hubbard Park. Located approximately 15 miles North of Bloomington IL, Lake Bloomington is easily accessible by taking I-39 North to the Lake Bloomington Exit, then proceding east on the Lake Bloomington Road (2500N) 4 miles. Lake Bloomington, a 635 acre reservoir, with 18.5 miles of shoreline, is owned by the City of Bloomington, IL and is maintained and operated by the City’s Water Department. Built in 1929, Lake Bloomington’s primary purpose is to serve as a source of potable water for the City of Bloomington and several nearby communnities. In addition, Lake Bloomington serves as host to over 220 residential sites and numerous Public Park Areas available for outdoor activities. ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES ARE PROHIBITED IN ANY PUBLIC USE AREA OF THE LAKE Fishing at Lake Bloomington is open to the public year round. A cooperative effort between the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, the City of Bloomington, the Lake Bloomington Association, as well as local fishing clubs, have helped turn Lake Bloomington into one of Central Illinois’ best kept fishing secrets. This ongoing fish stocking and management process provides an opportunity for anglers to test their skills on an abundance of a wide variety of game fish. Walleye, Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Hybrid Striped Bass, Northern Pike, Crappie, Bluegill, and Catfish can all be caught in Lake Bloomington. When fishing Lake Bloomington anglers must comply with the following rules and regulations: Anyone 16 years of age or older must have a valid Illinois Fishing License. Hook and line fishing only. No Jugs or Trot lines. Fish size and creel limits... Large and Smallmouth Bass---------------------Minimum 15” 6 per day Walleye--------------------------------------------Minimum 14” 6 per day Northern Pike-------------------------------------Minimum 24” 3 per day Hybrid Striped Bass------------------------------Minimum 17” 3 per day Crappie--------------------------------------------No Minimum Length 25 per day Bluegill---------------------------------------------Minimum 8” 10 per day No trolling is allowed. Fishing from a boat around private docks is prohibited when swimmers are present and between sunset and sunrise. No littering Lake Bloomington has one boat ramp and charges an access fee. Boats are limited to 40 horsepower. Dam end is popular for fisherman, water is murky but clean and swimming permitted but no public beach. Lake is property of Bloomington Illinois, but surrounding homes are private with long term land leases.
